These little guys are plentiful in the desert and fly up in front of the truck on remote roads. I have one on my place that has his favorite place to sit and watch the sky for bugs. It's in the trail I use to walk to the hot springs. Twice in past years this owl (or a clone) has taken a moth that was buzzing my headlamp. They're spooky quiet when they get wing-brushing close.
