Actually I think I killed the bird rather with the injection itself than the agent. I didn't have an assistant (can't inject intravenously in a wild bird alone), and it was a juvenile bird so the breast muscle is very small. Bird wanted to fight back and suddenly moved vigorously so I guess I hit an artery or something like that despite the smallest needle. The dead was so instant that the drug wasn't having any effect at the time.

So what we learned is, don't medicate wild birds without someone to help in handling.
