We live in NW Austin and have discovered a small owl regularly spending the day in one of our front yard trees. This tree will be bare soon . . . what will "our" owl do?

Also, we wonder what kind he is . . . he seems to have "tufts" or "horns", but is hardly 10 inches in size - haven't heard any sound from him yet . . .

Would be grateful for any info on what to do or not do. It's too late to make him a box, right? We figure he might be be scared off by something new in "his" tree.

Sounds like a Screech Owl. I would not worry about them without leaves. You will usually see them roosting on a branch near the trunk of the tree. They blend in with the tree bark quite well.

You are lucky to have one so close to your house.
