Located in the Lakes Region of NH, I am a nature and wildlife photographer who focuses on birds.

I have thousands of images of birds that I have taken over the years in my files, but I have had only two encounters with owls in the wild, that I have been able to come away from with captured images.

I hope that by joining this forum I will be able learn more about their behavior and thus make it more likely for me to locate them in the wild.

In January of this year I was lucky enough to capture images of a Northern Hawk Owl right here in NH. He created quite a stir here in NH amongst the birding community, as it was the first sighting of a NHO here since 2002.

Here is one of the images I took:

Welcome to the forum Paul. We all love pictures of owls, so post away.

For some reason, some of the migratory owls do not like crossing the St Lawrence Seaway. It is really sort of odd. They will stop on the Islands, but not cross further. I did see a Northern Hawk Owl last year sitting on a telephone line on the side of the highway. And, I live further south then you do. It was an enormous surprise to see him. I very much like the picture you have of him.

If you have questions about owls, please ask. We are always happy to help.

If I remember correctly, last year NH had a problem with Barred Owls starving to death.
