Okay, this is a major ship problem I have. I like OtulissaXSoren, but I also thought GylfieXSoren was good too. Now, I know that in the books, Otulissa and Soren were sort of like enemies while Gylfie and Soren simply remained good friends, but if you had to choose between the two owls...

(please explain your answer, too)

Maybe SPOILERS!
I think. - No, no! Don't cross the species. It's always going to be bad, like hagsfiend or poor puffowl...
I like Pellimore, that's all. Smile

If Soren never had Pelli? Gylfie, of course. They're the best of friends.

Both relationships would be revolutionary for the times, since Elf Owls and Spotted Owls are in one family and Barn Owls are in another. It'd be like a human marrying an orangutan.

Pelli is out of the picture.

Eh, that's unfair. Human marrying orangutang in the owl world would be more like an owl marrying a crow, or a songbird. The interspecies mix of owl/owl would be more like a human marrying... I dunno, I don't think we have anything to compare? Another human-like, talking, sentient, equally intelligent creature with only differing size and surface characteristics.

I just realized that you're kind of right in a way. Elf Owls/Spotted Owls and Barn Owls are in the same order but different families, so it'd be more like a human marrying a ring-tailed lemur; same order (primates) different family.
Owls aren't as closely related to each other as you think.
My first example was incorrect because orangutans actually DO belong to the same family as humans. A human marrying an orangutan would be like a common barn owl mating with a sooty owl.

You're looking at it from a purely phylogenic standpoint, focusing on DNA and the fertility of the relationship. Equating an elf owl/barn owl mix doesn't equate to a human/lemur mix because on the macro level, two owl species are more similar than humans and lemurs are. The behavior, life span, communication methods, etc. are more compatible.

Not in real life, but I guess in the context of GoG they do have a language in common.
Okay, it'll be like a human marrying Zoboomafoo.

Gylfie all the way. She and Soren are best friends. So nobody would really have a problem with it. Wink
